Benjamin Arthur 'the Mathemagician'

Benjamin Arthur ‘the Mathemagician’

As a routine, I watch at least two ‘Ted talks’ daily. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, let me summarize Ted talks in less than a handful of words. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan: “Ideas Worth Spreading” They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling.

A speaker is given a maximum of 18 minutes to present his or her ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways.

If you have some free time, I really recommend this show for you.

To cut the chase, His name is Arthur Benjamin, he’s a professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. When I watched his presentation, I remembered how my primary school teacher used to whip my ‘ass’ because of failing ‘times table quiz’.

In his other day job, Arthur is a “Mathemagician,” taking the stage to perform high-speed mental calculations, memorisations and other astounding mathematic stunts.

I wont take long talking about this ‘Mathemagician’ but I think it could be been better if he reveals his secrets for young people who are still struggling with my former problem of ‘times table’

NU INSIGHT VIEW BOOK 2014 final1

Talin Orfali Ghazarian

A lot of the times in life we go through many feelings, emotions, and sometimes we tend to apologize for what we are feeling and telling people our emotions. You have every right to feel what you are feeling, You never have to explain yourself to anybody. Never be ashamed of your feelings. I know they say that you have to express your feelings everytime and tell people exactly how you feel, however sometimes you cannot control feelings, you cannot explain the way you feel due to a certain situation. I know no matter what you have to tell someone how you feel, and not keep anything inside of you, but some circumstances say otherwise. It depends on the person and whom you can confide into easily.

If you keep on living your life on other peoples terms and the way they want you to feel, the way they want…

Don’t Worry, It Will Be Ok

Don’t worry, things will be ok”

“Things will work out how they are supposed to”

“You’ll be fine”

Common phrases we all use and hear every day of our lives.   When someone we know is going through a difficult time, health issues, family issues, work issues, school.. whatever an individual is struggling with, we tell them the same thing.  Often we use these phrases as our attempt to reassure or make them feel better that things will indeed be alright.

These phrases can carry great comfort to an individual when used in conjunction with a conversation proceeding such a statement.  Conversely the opposite is true when it is our first response.

Have you ever truly given thought to what the other person was feeling?  saying?  thinking? or in our rush to make them feel better we use one of the above lines with no apparent thought and negate any help…

Dear readers,

It has been quite a long time without sharing my thoughts due to the hectic year of final exams, where thereafter I took some good time to gain some weights and heights as well. I massively invested my time in my studies and the results came out leaving a smile on my face. Hopefully, am joining university late this year if and only if the Almighty God wishes.

On the same note, today am willingly to share my point of view regarding the so called ‘’gospel beliefs’’.

Am not against any denomination or ‘Idini’ (in my native language) even though I don’t have one. As you are accustomed too, I share my personal opinions which might be right according to your reasoning ability.

To leave no rock unturned simply means to take a comprehensive research apropos of a certain theme that has personal or common benefits. One man said that what kills African people, it is because we think as a group. But when it comes to gospel, there is no continental differences, we are all under the same church-age and that is Laodicea church as (Rev; 3:14) says.

Many people in this epoch, we are described as lukewarm, we are neither hot nor cold (Rev; 3:16). When you check most of the messages that are shared on social network, to mention a few; Facebook and whatsaap, we are warned about the kingdom of God and related facts proving that Jesus is nearer. (Matt; 3:2)

I wholeheartedly agree about that because I believe in each and a very verse that is written in the Bible. In most cases what bits my understanding; it is people’s beliefs and their inability to use common sense.

Let’s take an illustration about denominations. Most of religions don’t share common beliefs because if they do, they could be praying and worshiping under one roof. And the other thing, some of them spell out that others won’t see the kingdom of God. Pastors and preachers do tell that what they teach is under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Simply my question is; ‘’Are they worshiping the same God, since they are not inspired by the same Holy Spirit’’

If the Holy Spirit was the same, then they could be under one roof with same faith and beliefs. Isn’t it?

Our elders in the Spirit, that’s to say; Abraham, Moses, Elijah, John the Baptist etc… They stepped on this planet in different time periods but I have never seen where one contradicts the other in the scriptures, and none knew the other but the only link they had was the same Holy Spirit from the same source.

God appoints HIS ministers to serve HIM, as HE choose 12 disciples, met Moses in the burning bush, appeared to Saul and made him his evangelist (Acts; 9:15) and many others…and this is the only way one can be inspired by the Holy spirit. (John 15:16)

But if one wakes up with a fanatic dream, and the next day a church is built and he is a ‘pastor’ when God has not chosen him that’s where people start to teach false things. (1 Timothy; 4:2-4, Colossians 2:16, Rev 2:20)

It is now clear, since our churches today don’t have the same Spirit then there is a big problem.

The bible says that ‘’one Lord, One faith, One baptism’’ (Ephesians 4:5), but do we have one faith, what about the baptism? If we don’t have the two can we have the remaining one ‘’ One Lord’’ I don’t think so.

It is said that none will see the kingdom of God without being born again and that is through the baptism, (Mark 16:16) Even those who claim to have the right baptism, they conduct it in a different manner as the bible says, and do you see where we are heading?

The today’s baptism is done in the context of the ‘’Trinity’’, and this theory of the trinity cannot be found in the bible. The only way I think that we should be baptized, ‘’according to the bible’’ it must be the same as the apostles did. (Acts 2:38, Acts 8:38-39, Acts 19:5 etc…)

God is not worried about HIS children because HE promised them internal life and they merit it. Remember, they are always few in the number. It’s not a theory that they are always few but In Noah’s time only 8 people survived, and the bible says it is shall be the same.

My free mind of thoughts tells me that we should buy salve to put on our eyes so that we can see.

Rev 3:22 ‘’He who has an ear. Let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches’’

NAKED CHIEFS

WELL-wishers continue to gather, pray, and sing outside the hospital in Pretoria where former President Nelson Mandela remains in critical condition. And the journalists, whom Mandela’s family has called “vultures”, also continue to do the Mandela deathwatch outside.

The world, meanwhile, holds it breath and waits. At 94, and in ill-health the last 10 years, only the most starry-eyed would think that Mandela has not had enough time on Mother Earth—the only wrinkle here being that 27 of them were spent in detention.

This week, it dawned on me that South Africa, Africa, and the world could be more terrified of Mandela’s death than he himself ever was. So why don’t most people want to let Mandela go?

There are some like me, who still want to find answers. For example, in a continent where 90 percent of the leaders try (and most times succeed) to change constitutions so that…

Martin Richard was standing near the finish line to cheer on family friends running the Boston Marathon on Monday, when an explosion took his life.

He was 8 years old and in the third grade.

Neighbor Jane Sherman told WCVB that Martin was a typical little boy, who loved to ride his bike and play baseball.

Martin’s mother, Denise, was hospitalized with “grievous injuries,” The Times of London reported. She reportedly underwent surgery late Monday for an injury to her brain.

“They are beloved by this community. They contribute in many ways. That’s why you see this outpouring,” City Councilor at Large Ayanna Presley told the boston globe “It’s surreal,

it’s tragic, it’s incomprehensible. Everyone here tonight is trying to comfort one another and be prayerful.”

The explosions on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of at least two other people. More than 140 were also injured.May He rest in peace.

Winnie breathing-out her opinions during a get-together with her fellas.

There are some logical quizzes which need no deep thinking but quick answers. For instance:

South, there’s black house, North, there’s blue house, East, there’s yellow house. Where is white house located? Normally, the anticipated response would be in west but, it is universally known for white house to be in United States.

This question is similar as: Mary’s mother has five children.

The first is NINI, the second is NUNU, the third is NONO, and the fourth is NENE.  Who is the fifth child?     Don’t say that the fifth is NANA, because it’s Mary.

Those two approaches need prompt answers but there are some which need thinking, for example.

Why is that, only ‘’BIC’’ pens, have a hole, in the middle of their cover? Or Why is the word ambulance written in a mirror image on their vehicles?

Same applies to the question: ‘if given a chance, between your sister and girlfriend, whom can you save in times of death-defying.

Winnie is a bosom friend of mine, who contributed a lot to my life. She taught me incalculable life aspects, in little time we shared together. Only initiating a get-together, to be a good listener, to ever smile etc… Were the few tips I learnt from her among others.

The title statement was a question I was supposed to answer to her. During that period I was trying to launch a childish manifesto. Due to my perspective in that instant, I answered that ‘’I can save my girlfriend because I have many sisters’’. And she roared with laughter.

She proceeded to explain for me that for her being like a sister to me, among others would be better for her in sharing all her experiences. We agreed with her opinion and my manifesto had no validity but ended in vain.

Winnie is now my sister from another mother and father but we seldom talk due to long distance. But I am optimistic, that after the triumph of this upcoming battle of national exams, we shall initiate another get-together.

On the some note, I hope that the manifesto am planning to launch will be successful. How I wish to invite you in the inauguration ceremony of our manifesto.

‘Oh, I say the measure of a man Is not how tall you stand ,How wealthy or intelligent you are.‘Cause I found out the measure of a man.
God knows and understand
For He looks inside to the bottom of your heart.
And what’s in the heart defines
The measure of a man.”

The TRUE on-going story of Nick has transformed many, who were in a dual life status. Here is the brief of his story but more can be extracted from the link below.

Hi, friends,

My name is Nick Vujicic and I am thankful to have been born 30 years ago with no arms and no legs. I won’t pretend my life is easy, but through the love of my parents, loved ones, and faith in God, I have overcome my adversity and my life is now filled with joy and purpose. I reside now in California with my wife, Kanae, and we both love seeing people’s lives changed for the better or touched in some way. It is my hope that your life is positively impacted by my story.

I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, and it was a shock to my parents that I arrived without limbs. There is no medical reason for it. My parents did their very best to keep me in the mainstream school system and give me every opportunity to live to the fullest. I was blessed to have a brother and a sister as my best friends too.

We later moved to Brisbane, Australia, where I lived for 14 years before I made the move to California. At age eight, I could not see a bright future ahead and I became depressed. When I was ten years old, I decided to end my life by drowning myself in a bathtub. After a couple attempts, I realized that I did not want to leave my loved ones with the burden and guilt that would result from my suicide. I could not do that to them.

I wasn’t depressed my entire childhood, but I did have ups and downs. At age thirteen I hurt my foot, which I use for many things like typing, writing and swimming. That injury made me realize that I need to be more thankful for myabilities and less focused on my disabilities.

When I was fifteen years old, I sealed my faith in God and from there it has been an amazing journey.

A janitor at my high school inspired me to start speaking about my faith and overcoming adversity when I was seventeen. I spoke only a dozen times to very small groups over the next two years. Then I found myself in front of three hundred sophomore (grade 10) students and I was very nervous. My knees were shaking. Within the first three minutes of my talk, half the girls were crying, and most of the boys were struggling to hold their emotions together. One girl in particular was sobbing very hard. We all looked at her and she put her hand up. She said, “I am so sorry to interrupt, but can I come up and hug you?”

She came hugged me in front of everyone, and whispered in my ear, “Thank you, thank you, thank you. No one has ever told me that they loved me and that I am beautiful the way I am.”

Her gratitude inspired me to go across 44 countries and speak 2,000 times. I realized that we all need love and hope and that I was in a unique position to share thatwith people around the world.

While majoring in both accounting and financial planning at a university, I also worked on developing my abilities as a speaker. I worked with a speaking coach who helped to cultivate me as a presenter. He especially worked on my body language as my hands flew everywhere at first!

I spoke on motivational topics after creating the company, attitude is altitude. I also launched a non-profit ministry, life without limbs, to spread my messages of faith and hope around the world.

Whoever you are, wherever you’re from and whatever you are dealing with, I hope that you will be inspired by my story and my message. Please enjoy browsing around this website where I share with you my thoughts on faith, hope and love to encourage you and to help you overcome your own challenges.

Dream big my friend and never give up. We all make mistakes, but none of us are mistakes.Take one day at a time. Embrace the positive attitudes, perspectives, principles and truths I share, and you too will overcome.
